This bangle was inspired by the Ancient Greek ritual of Charon's Obol in which coins were placed with the dead to pay for passage into the afterlife. Two coins have been bezel set into a silver cuttlebone cast band. A ferry token from the San Francisco company Star & Crescent and a 1957 Sixpence - after all, you should always tip your ferryman!
This bangle has been made by pouring molten ecosilver into ethically sourced cuttlebone.
Bangle circumference: 22.5cm
What does ethically sourced cuttlebone mean to me? It means I have personally picked up the bones which have washed up on UK beaches after the cuttlefish have died a natural death.
This pendant has been assayed and laser hallmarked by Sheffield Assay Office. The bangle weighs approximately 53g.
