Charon's Obol

In Ancient Greek myths, Charon is the ferryman who carries souls across the rivers Acheron and Styx which separate the realms of the living from the dead. Charon’s Obol were coins of little worth left by mourners in or near their loved ones mouths to pay for passage into the afterlife. If a departed soul did not have the fare, they would be abandonned on the bank for 100 years - which is why you should always be polite and tip your ferryman!

Old tokens and coins have always held a fascination for me. The idea of handling something which has been through countless other hands is the type of tactile history I love.
