Blackbeard's Tea Party
Last year my brother Dave (that's him above) came to me with one of his broken cymbals and asked if I could remove the cracked section so he could still use it. He then asked if the cut-out section could be an interesting shape. Lightbulb moment! Perhaps the cut-out could be reutilised as jewellery – maybe even a giant bronzebeard medallion he could wear onstage. Several (hundreds…) of broken blades later and several old cymbals utilised, Blackbeard’s Tea Party themed jewellery was born.
Working with bell bronze is not the easiest material I have ever worked with as it blunts blades in next to no time but reworking materials is rewarding and being able to work with Dave and the band is always a joy.
If you would like to own a slice of Blackbeard’s Tea Party history, you can find them here. If you have never heard of them and like contemporary folk rock check them out here. Their live shows are stupendous!!
I just wish their logo had less beard…..
